Knowledge Cotton Apparel was founded in 1969 in Herning, Denmark, a town historically known as the center of the Danish textile industry. The company began as a conventional knitwear producer but pivoted decisively toward sustainability in the early 2000s, becoming one of the first European fashion brands to build its entire supply chain around organic and recycled materials. The brand holds certifications from the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and is a certified B Corporation — a designation earned by fewer than 1% of companies globally. Its production partners are audited through the Fair Wear Foundation, providing independent verification of working conditions across its supply chain, which spans factories in Portugal, Turkey, and India.
